Canoe Sprint Coaching Course

Course Information

Coaching Level 1

Objective: Level 1 is designed to equip the beginning coaches with the basic technical skills of racing a c canoe and kayak, as well as development of specific knowledge about the sport. At this level, the coach will be better prepared to coach beginning athletes in basic technique and plan practice sessions in a safe and motivating manner.
Course Duration: 20 hours
Requirements:
  • At least 18 years and above
  • Ability to swim 200m without a buoyancy aid
  • Have at least two years of Canoe Sprint training experience or one competition experience at the National Inter-School or above canoeing championships
To obtain the Level One Canoe Sprint Coaching (Technical) Certification, participants are required to:
  • Hold a recognized and current standard First-Aid certification
  • Hold Level One Singapore Coach Excellence (SG-Coach) Programme (Theory) or equivalent
  • Complete 4 sessions (approx. 2 to 3 hours per session) of attachment under the guidance of the assigned national coach

Coaching Level 2

Objective: Level 2 is designed to equip intermediate coach with the advanced technical aspects and racing technique of kayaking. Acquisition at this level, the coach will be able to prepare athletes at club, school and recreational programme level, incorporating the physical, technical and mental demand of the sport.
Course Duration: 30 hours
Requirements:
  • Holder of Level 1 Canoe Sprint Coaching Course (Technical) or equivalent
  • Holder of Level 1 Singapore Coach Excellence (SG-Coach) Programme (Theory) or equivalent
  • One year coaching experience or 4 phases x 5 sessions attachment guidance
To obtain the Level Two Canoe Sprint Coaching (Technical) Certification, participants are required to:
  • Hold a recognized and current standard First-Aid certification
  • Hold Level 2 Singapore Coach Excellence (SG-Coach) Programme (Theory) or equivalent
  • Complete 4 phases X 5 sessions of attachment under the guidance of the assigned national coach. The 4 phases are (i) Preparatory - land (ii) Preparatory - water (iii) Competition (iv) Recovery

Coaching Level 3 (Hungary)

Objective: Level 3 is designed to equip coaches with a high standard of racing and technical expertise necessary to coach advanced c canoeing and kayaking skills for competition at National Level.
Course Duration: 40 hours
Requirements:
  • Holder of Level 2 Canoe Sprint Coaching Course (Technical) or equivalent
  • Holder of Level 2 Singapore Coach Excellence (SG-Coach) Programme (Theory) or equivalent
To obtain the Level Three Canoe Sprint Coaching (Technical) Certification, participants are required to:
  • Hold a recognized and current standard First-Aid certification
  • Hold Level 3 Singapore Coach Excellence (SG-Coach) Programme (Theory) or equivalent
  • Attachment guidance – To align with the proposed SSI Coach Mentorship Programme (Further details to be announced on a later date)
